Lisibo @ BETT

BETT seems ages ago - but it's only a month.

However, it's a very long time to have neglected to blog my thoughts. I have been exceptionally busy since then - excuses excuse! - so much so that I've been struggling to keep up with life let alone blogging.

However, I was reminded that there is a clip of me doing what comes naturally - talking! Leon Cych asked me if I'd record a minute of my impressions of BETT - well, it's a bit longer than that! Excuse me if it rambles a bit - I was very tired and had an excruciatingly sore back!

I think what I said having only been at BETT for 2 hours was still true after a day and a half. What makes and made BETT special for me is meeting people and sharing ideas. I did see a brilliant weather making green screen thing on the Kudlian stand - Jo Rhys-Jones and I got rather excited about the prospect of using it in language learning - Chris Fuller disowned us at that point!! And I had a marvellous time on the 2Simple stand - their products are brilliant (please could they make them Mac compatible though ;o)) But mostly it was TMTakeover, Teachmeet and meeting up with random people that made my BETT.

There are lots of other OSS videos with Dawn Hallybone, Zoe Ross, David Noble too. Check them out on the OpenSourceSchools channel on Youtube.

Why I'm excited about BETT pt 2

Reason 2 - TeachMeet #TMBETT10

One of my main reasons for excitement about BETT is not the exhibition itself but the Teachmeet that follows after hours!

This year will be my third Teachmeet, and I am really looking forward to the experience this time.

The first year I was overawed and felt insignificant but inspired to do something to rid myself of that feeling.

Last year I was excited but also a little nervous as I wondered if I really did have anything worthwhile to say to this crowd of people about technology. It seems that I did as my seven minutes went down well and were described in rather lovely terms by @digitalmaverick. Such a sweetie!

This year, I've once more volunteered to speak. My title - 'What Lisibo did next'

You'll have to wait and see what I say this year but here are last year's words of 'wisdom'.

If you're interested in joining in, you can attend in person (along with the other 177 who are signed up) by signing the wiki, (you don't have to speak!!) and if you can't attend in person, there's a Flashmeeting you can join (URL to follow!)

And, whilst I'm unable to join in either event (due to the third reason why I'm excited about BETT) there are free events of Wednesday and Thursday night too.

TeachMeetMidlands09

IMG_2055, originally uploaded by José Picardo.

Having spent all day in London animating, I leapt onto a train to Birmingham, then home where I picked up my car and drove rapidly (but within the speed limit!) to the NCSL in Nottingham for TeachMeetMidlands09.

I'd been looking forward to this for ages and it was unfortunate that I arrived too late to hear the presentations by likes of Dan Needlestone (@nstone) and Ian Usher (@iusher).

I did catch lots of great presentations though and you too can see them by going to the Flashmeeting replay. You can also see my presentation about what's been going on at my school, showing examples of the sorts of things I've been using with pupils - Voki, Voicethread, Twitter, Slideshare - all saved on our new wiki.

And I had a lovely time chatting to friends old and new, having my Macbook customised with green Post-its and glacier mints, and leading the way in making the most of the provisions ;o)

Looking forward to the next TeachMeet I can attend - I've heard talk of TeachMeetGran Canaria......

Lisibo talks! - Again!

I was really touched to read the latest post on Integrating ICT into the MFL classroom in which Joe Dale talks about my podcast Lisibo talks!
His opening sentence - 'Primary language teacher and MFL blogger Lisa Stevens is an inspiration to many thanks to her indefatigable enthusiasm and willingness to experiment with new technologies' - made me blush furiously as did many of the other kind things Joe said. However, I really do hope that those who read the post choose to watch the video clip from Teachmeet at BETT09 as I really want to encourage people to have a go and experiment with technology and new ideas. And I've added the video here too.

PS Just posted a new episode of Lisibo talks! from the eTwinning Spanish links meeting in Manchester last Tuesday.
